Heat is a killer to most electronics components and will shorten the life of the equipment. If you do not have additional cooling for your xbox 360 you are asking for trouble. This is a great add on for your xbox 360. The xbox 360 will fail sooner if the additional fans are not installed. The game dvd would get so hot that it was hard to hang onto when you removed the disk. The intercooler moves the hot air and the game disk is no longer HOT. Trust me I know from experience as I am on my second Xbox-360. The first one did not last very long because of the heat.
The product seemed to work the first day, but when I went back to my apartment after Winter break, my Xbox was redringed. That is the ONLY way the air is escaping from the Intercooler. I have owned my Xbox for about 4 years now without any problems, and coincidentally, a week after I install my NYKO Intercooler, it breaks. The overall design of the Intercooler seems not very well thought out. There are the three fans like in the picture and above those fans are a couple of slits to allow ventilation. I would expect to have more air trapped in the Intercooler than released. Overall, it seems like a poor design.I do not think this product is safe to use on any Xbox, and the people who have not yet been redringed, have either gotten lucky or have a new Xbox.Good luck if you buy this, and better luck if you don't.Grrr.
It is noisy but you generally do not notice it unless you are watching a movie on your Xbox. Getting Microsoft to create an unflawed Xbox was out of the question. This noise started from the moment I started using the cooler right out of the box from Amazon. It turns on and off based on temperature rather than just the power to the Xbox.
The noise went away with out doing anything after a minute but I was worried something bad was happening to the fans. This is a nice plus. It does keep my console cooler. After two RRODs (red ring of death) on my console I knew I needed something other than larger plastic feet on the bottom of the Xbox. It now looks like their black one they sell. After I could no longer take the loud noise from the bearings I disassembled the unit and placed a small drop of oil of each of the three fans (peel bad the fan sticker to access the hole and do not add a lot of oil small small drop here).
I am certain I could have sent the unit back to Amazon but I really did not want to bother. So be aware of the quality control issues on the fans.
I would buy again but locally so if the fans were bad I could return the cooler without issue. Enter the Intercooler TS, this uses a separate power supply, which is needed since the other one they made was claimed to RROD Xboxs because they used the power from the Xbox directly.
The 'oil fix' worked fine now only once in a great while do my fans make the louder noise. I ended up getting an Elite and since this was the white one (they make black now) I painted it when I decided to fix the unit's fans.
The problem, the fans were noisy as in the bearings are bad noise. Painting it was easy with the fans out of the case and it looks perfect, just paint from the backside and mask off.
As for any issues with noise I find it quite negligible. and the first thing I did was to place a small fan in back of the console after hearing so much about the RROD. To me it only stands to reason that that ANY type of fan unit must periodically be cleaned. I mistakenly came upon this fan unit and it obviously caught my eye right off.
However, that again brings us back to common sense in periodically doing a bit of preventative maintenance and cleaning the unit and the console. This fan is an exhaust fan whereas my other fan blew air into the unit. After several weeks of use it seems to keep the console much cooler in the back as opposed the fan I was using previously. Xbox 360 Intercooler TSGot it.love it.I've only had an Xbox for a few months (second childhood as I'm 62). Would I recommend this. Yes, the unit does stay on for about 30 seconds after the console is off but this only reinforces the fact that the unit is indeed heat sensitive and doing just what it is supposed to be doing.
After all, every so often the fans must be thoroughly cleaned in a computer so why not these fans. As for the possibility of this unit clogging up the console with dirt it seems somewhat odd in it doing so as it blows OUT and not into the unit.
A resounding.YES. The fan did the job but it was somewhat self defeating as to ease of use as I had to get down on my hands and knees each time to turn the fan on.
It has not yet undergone the test of time but if for some reason it should fail (within a reasonable amount of time) I would not hesitate to purchase another. Obviously you can hear the small fans running if the sound is off on the T.V.
but while playing a game I can honestly say I do not hear a thing. Better to spend money on this fan rather than the alternative of an overheated and burned out Xbox console.
I don't normally review products, however this one actually did impress me. The difference made is quite noticeable, usually after an hour of gaming the 360 is worrisomely hot but now with the intercooler even after hours of gaming its relatively cool to the touch. I totally recommend to 360 owners wary of RROD. which is most likely all.
